ATLANTA – An Indiana native who contracted the Ebola virus while working in West Africa has recovered and will be released from an Atlanta hospital Thursday, officials said.
Dr. Kent Brantly, 33, is a 2009 graduate of IU School of Medicine and current resident of Texas. He was a on a two-year mission treating Ebola patients in Liberia when he was diagnosed earlier this summer.
He received treatment in Africa before being flown to Emory Hospital in Atlanta where he remained in isolation since early August.
Brantly is expected to be discharged from the hospital Thursday following a news conference.
More than 1,300 people have fallen victim to the deadly virus.
