East Central hosts indoor track invitational

The area track season got underway Saturday with the East Central Indoor Invitational. It was a non-team scoring event where individuals had a chance to qualify for the state indoor meet at Indiana University on March 26.

Several other indoor meets are being held over the next few weeks leading up to the state meet.  Those who finish in the top 24 within their respective events will qualify.

Event winners at East Central included the following:

  • 55 Dash- Greensburg’s Elizabeth Mitchell (7.71) and East Central’s Tyler Carr (6.91)
  • 200 Dash- East Central’s Rachel Campbell (28.85) and Tyler Carr (25.09)
  • 800 Run- Batesville’s Kaylie Raver (2.38.48), and Benjamin Moster (2:10.14)
  • 3200 Run- Batesville’s Kaylynn Bedel (12:36.52) and Rushville’s Kyle Stanley (10:57.24)
  • 55 Hurdles- South Ripley’s Emily Flood (9.45) and Connersville’s Parker Sweet (8.49)
  • 4×400 Relay- East Central girls (Graff, Ferguson, Bender, Campbell…4:34.91) and East Central boys (Carr, Geisen, Rinear, Schutte…3:54.38)
  • 4×800 Relay- East Central girls (Gindling, Bender, McDonald, Campbell…10:49.36) and Batesville boys (Loichinger, Chapman, Smith, Moster…8:59.60…just 0.43 off the meet record)
  • 776 Sprint Medley- Connersville girls (Soriano, Strong, Frank, Seeley…2:02.82) and Greensburg boys (Forkert, E. Meadows, O. Meadows, Stewart…1:43.38)
  • High Jump- Franklin County’s Ella Flannery (4’8”) and Greensburg’s Blake Collins (5’8”)
  • Pole Vault- Connersville’s Brooke Sudhoff (9’6”) and Brayden Jones (12’0”)
  • Long Jump- East Central’s Rylee Edwards (16’1.25”) and Connersville’s Carter DeBoard (19’6.5”)
  • Shot Put- Greensburg’s Emarie Jackson (37’0”) and East Central’s Leo Maxwell (53’1”)

Unedited report from Batesville’s Lisa Gausman- East Central High School hosted a 12 team indoor invitational yesterday. This was not a team scored event, but an opportunity to give individuals a chance to compete in various events and try to qualify for the indoor state meet held at Indiana University March 26th. There are several more weeks in various places that will hold these qualifying meets and athletes will know if they qualify by Tuesday, March 22nd. To qualify, their time/distance needs to be in the top 24 performances in the state.

Batesville had many that performed very well and placed in the top 6 of their event. Overall Champions were: Benjamin Moster-800m run (2:10.14), Kaylie Raver-800m run (2:38.48)Kaylynn Bedel-3200m run (12:36.52) and the boys 4 x 800, relay team of Ean Loichinger, Jake Chapman, Daren Smith and Benjamin Moster (8:59.6)-just missing the indoor record by .43 of a second.

Taking the runner up positions were: Deacon Hamilton-55m hurdles, Ean Loichinger-800m run, Jake Chapman-3200m run, the girls 4 x 800, relay team of Kaylie Raver, Megan Allgeier, Emma Weiler and Kaylynn Bedel, the girls sprint medley relay of Lizzy Nobbe, Cora Deputy, Katie Olsen and Madelyn Pohlman, the girls 4 x 400m relay team of Kaylie Raver, Madelyn Pohlman, Carley Pride and Katie Olsen, the boys 4 x 400m relay team of Vonley Hund, Ean Loichinger, Daren Smith and Benjamin Moster

3rd places finishes went to: Deacon Hamilton-long jump, Alex Murphy-pole vault, Madelyn Pohlman-200m dash, Megan Allgeier-800m run,

4th places finishes were: Daren Smith-800m run, Lily Meyer-55m dash, Veronica King-shot put, the boys sprint medley relay of Jy’lil Chappell, Deacon Hamiltion, Alex Murphy, Vonley Hund

5th place performances were: Gage Pohlman and Cora Deputy-55m hurdles, Cora Deputy-high jump, Lizzy Nobbe-long jump, Elena Kuisel-pole vault and the boys 2nd 4 x 400m relay team of Will Nuhring, Isaac Trossman, Tyler Bedel and Gage Pohlman.

6th place went to: Vonley Hund-200m dash, Hudson Kohlman and Ayden Eckstein-tied in high jump and Emma Weiler-800m run.
