Dwight David “Dee” Mondary

Dwight David “Dee” Mondary, 65, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2024 at the home of his sister. Dee was born in Lawrenceburg, IN on August 25, 1959, a son of the late June Ann (Kelly) Mondary and Victor E. Mondary. Dee grew up in Rising Sun and attended Rising Sun High School. Dee proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, obtaining the rank of Lance Corporal. His primary specialty in service was Field Radio Operator and he also received a Rifle Expert Badge. Dee was a 32-year member of the Rising Sun American Legion Post #59 and a life member of the VFW. In 1994 Dee began employment for the City of Rising Sun. He worked as a Waste Water Technician, retiring in 2021 after 27 years of service. Dee loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He grew a large garden every year and supplied many of his family and friends with vegetables. Dee’s favorite pastime was being with friends and telling stories. He was a well-known and loved member of the Rising Sun community and just about everyone has a Dee story to tell. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends but leaves behind many fond memories.

Dee is survived by his son, Shawn Mondary, of Rising Sun, IN; by his sister, Barbara Anderson (Greg), of Rising Sun, IN; by his brothers, Victor “Sandy” Mondary (Sue), of Brownsburg, IN;  Tony  Mondary (Fran), of Rising Sun, IN;  Mike Mondary (Lydia), of Rising Sun, IN;  Bruce Mondary (Helen), of Georgetown, KY;  Raymond Mondary (Amanda), of Rising Sun, IN and Renny Mondary, of Rising Sun, IN; by his sister-in-law, Debbie Mondary, of Rising Sun, IN; by his uncle, John Kelly (Kathy), of Pine Island, FL and by many beloved nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Dee was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers, Ronnie Mondary and Richie Mondary, and by his sister-in-law Rosie Mondary.

Funeral services with military honors will be at 3:00 PM, Sunday, November 3rd, 2024 at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Eldon Fancher officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 3rd at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Cedar Hedge Cemetery.
