DECATUR COUNTY, IN — A driver is facing charges, and two people were injured in a four-vehicle accident on State Road 46 near County Road 950 West in Decatur County shortly before 8:30 Wednesday morning.
The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of a silver 2014 Chevrolet Malibu heading east on 46 tried to pass a tractor-trailer going in the same direction, but oncoming westbound traffic caused the Malibu’s driver to turn into the semi.
After hitting the semi, the car struck a westbound 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix head-on.
The Grand Prix then swerved into eastbound traffic and struck a 2004 Ford Escape. The drivers of the Malibu and the Grand Prix were injured and taken to Decatur County Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the Malibu was later arrested and charged with Driving while Being a Habitual Traffic Violator Causing Serious Bodily Injury.
Blood alcohol tests are pending.
The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.
Agencies assisting at the scene were the St Paul Police Department, the Greensburg Fire Department, the Burney Volunteer Fire Department, Decatur County EMS, the Letts Fire Department, and Sweet’s Wrecker.
The identities of the drivers involved in the wreck were not released.
