Lawrenceburg, In. — The school bus driver in a March crash that injured several students has been cited for driving too fast for the conditions. Investigators determined sun glare and speed caused Raymond Nies to hit the rear of a parked Rumpke Garbage truck. Dearborn/Ohio County prosecutor Lynn Deddins also says the investigation revealed no criminal activity by Nies.
In a press release Deddins says, “It is reasonable to believe that if a person operating a vehicle is unable to observe an actusl and/or potential hazard, speed should be reduced until the actual and/or potential hazard can be avoided. The sun condition was clearly a contributing factor to visibility that required speed to be reduced.
Twenty-three students were hurt in the crash, one seriously. First responders and medical professionals from Highpoint Health and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital acted swiftly to transport and treat the victims.
