Doug Price, age 73, Batesville

 

Doug Price, age 73, of Batesville, Indiana died Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at his residence in Batesville.

Born March 10, 1947 in Hamilton, Ohio he was one of seven children born to the late Vernon & Ula M. (Benge) Price.  He was a graduate of the former Brookville High School with the class of 1965, where he was a star athlete.  Doug was on the first team, All State in Football, and Mens’s State Championship Volleyball team.  He also ran track, setting a school record in the high jump.  Doug was well known for his basketball career, in which he held records for most points scored.  He was voted most athletic by his class, and was a proud Greyhound.

Doug went on to further his education at Berry College in Rome, Georgia where he played basketball on scholarship, and also ran cross country, graduating with his Bachelor of Science.  While at Berry he also held scoring records and was named All American while playing basketball.

He then began his career as an Educator and Coach, later earning his Masters Degree from Indiana State University.  He taught high school biology, Earth Science and Physical Education for over 30 years.  He had a true passion for mentoring others, as he had a successful Varsity Basketball coaching career.

When not participating or coaching sports he enjoyed watching westerns, fishing, mushroom hunting, bird watching, collecting baseball & basketball cards, coins & knives.  He also loved vacationing with his wife and family in Florida every year and shelling on the beach.

In addition to Beth, his wife of over 23 years, his spirit lives on in his daughters, Alana White of Whiteland, Indiana, Tara (Matt) Payne of Franklin, Indiana, Ashley (Jed) Zarse of Franklin, Indiana; a step-daughter, Brittany Mullins of Madison, Indiana; grandchildren, Drake White, Drew White, Gracey Payne, Matthew Payne, Quinn Zarse, Clara Zarse, Sydney Strickland, Zane Strickland, Zoie Niese; great-grandchildren, Beau Strickland and Weston Hale, four sisters, Joyce Ann Cox of Metamora, Indiana, Janet Marie Duncan of Erlanger, Kentucky, Peggy Lee Quante of Connersville, Indiana, Deborah Lynn Price of Brookville, Indiana; and a brother, James Clinton Price of Powell, Tennessee.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva Walker, who died in 2007.

Friends and family may visit from 3 until 5 P.M. on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Phillips and Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.  The family requests everyone in attendance wear a mask.

Wade Urban will officiate the Memorial Services at 5:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home in Brookville.
