Doris Ellen (Cutter) Canfield, 84, of Milan passed away Monday, November 25, 2024, at her home with her loving family by her side. Doris was born on Saturday, April 20, 1940, in Bear Branch, Indiana; daughter of Dale and Martha (Dickerson) Cutter. Doris married John W. Canfield, on June 13, 1959, and he preceded her in death on March 8, 1993. She worked at Blue Star Manor from 1961-1976, and later worked at Seagrams as a laborer from 1981-1998. Doris attended Dillsboro Baptist Church and was a member of the beautification committee at Tamiami Park Village. She enjoyed playing shuffleboard, being in the dartball club, planting flowers, and doing cake decorating.
Doris will be missed by her sons Donald (Connie) Mockbee of Moores Hill, Kenneth (Kim) Mockbee of Moores Hill, and Timothy (Janice) Canfield of Moores Hill; daughters Cynthia Ison of Milan, Debora (Bill) Peters of Milan, and Darlene (Joe) Cox of Moores Hill; sister Thelma Palmer of Rising Sun; companion Ernest Woods of Fort Myers, Florida; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents Dale and Martha Cutter; husband John Canfield; brother Carroll Cutter; and sisters Naomi Childers and Mary Lou Engel.
Family and friends may gather in remembering Doris from 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM, Friday, November 29, 2024, at the Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home in Dillsboro. A service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery Memorials may be given in honor of Doris to the Milan Volunteer Fire Department or Moores Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
