Donald “Red” M. Zeigler, age 91, passed away Wednesday, March 22nd, 2023 at Heritage House of Greensburg. He was the youngest son of John L. Zeigler and Grace Marie Martin Zeigler. Don was born November 26th, 1931.
Don, a lifelong resident of Decatur County, served in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the 5th Communications Group. He returned home to help with Zeigler Brothers Trucking. He was also a farmer and avid gardener.
Don married Lila June May on March 31st, 1961 at the First Christian Church in Greensburg. She precedes him in death. Don was very active in local politics. He was elected to Washington Township Advisory Board and the Decatur County Animal Control Board. He served as a precinct committeeman, Republican Party Treasurer, and Delegate for the Indiana State Republican convention. Don was a member of the American Legion Post 129 and the VFW. Don performed many veterans funerals as a member of the color guard.
He is survived by daughters, Mary Jane (Mike) Barnard of Westport and Nancy Dishner of Indianapolis. Sons include Tom Zeigler of Indianapolis and Steven (Vicki) Zeigler of Westport. He is also survived by grandchildren; Ryan, Jeremy, Clayton, Samantha, Marybeth, and Kayla. He has one great-grandchild, Cody. He was preceded in death by son, Robert Smith and grandchild, Christina White, brothers; Robert and Ralph Zeigler and his parents.
Services will be at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home on Tuesday March 28th, 2023. Visitation will be from 11am – 1pm with the funeral immediately following at 1pm. Burial will follow at Kingston Cemetery.
