Donald E. Grace Sr., 93, Dillsboro

Donald E. Grace Sr., age 93, of Dillsboro, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lawrenceburg.

Born on May 25, 1932, in Moores Hill, Indiana, Don was the son of the late Louis and Hazel (Beggs) Grace. On September 3, 1955, he was united in marriage to Betty (Gordon) Grace for 69 years, she preceded him in death on March 5, 2025.

Don honorably served in the United States Army and dedicated over three decades of his professional life as a pipefitter/welder at Gulf Oil Refinery. Don actively participated in numerous civic and fraternal organizations, including the Southeastern Indiana Shrine Club, Scottish Rite, Hopewell Masonic Lodge #80, Dillsboro American Legion Post #292, Eastern Star, and was recognized with the honorary title of Kentucky Colonel.

His commitment to the Shrine Club was especially noteworthy; he was a familiar and enthusiastic presence at parades and took great pride in preparing meals—particularly fried chicken and grilled steaks—for numerous events. Don was also an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and operating heavy equipment to construct ponds.

He is survived by his son, Donald (Sue) Grace Jr. of Dillsboro; daughter, Gina (Dan) Roessler of Akron, Ohio; brothers, Dale (Darlene) Grace, Larry Grace, Jerry (Barb) Grace, and Steve Grace; sisters, Betty Dall and Sharon (Bob) Peelman; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Schebelt; and brother-in-law Dick Schebelt; sister-in-law, Jean Grace; and brother-in-law, Edward Dall.

In accordance with the family’s wishes, services will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Grace’s honor to the Southeastern Indiana Shriners Club.
