Late Sunday afternoon at The Brickyard, Scott Dixon posted the second fastest four-lap average in Indy 500 qualifying history with an average speed of 234.046 mph. It’s Dixon’s second straight pole and fifth overall, one behind the half-dozen poles taken by Rick Mears.
Two days prior, Fast Friday certainly lived up to its billing. It’s where drivers get an additional 90 horsepower to boost practice lap speeds. But the additional horsepower combined with 40 mph wind gusts out of the south, made for some very tense moments.
Conor Daly reached a maximum speed of 243.724 mph heading into turn three with a major tailwind behind him. Daly said driving conditions were awful and other drivers commented the wind had many on edge.
