Dixie Jean Schmaltz, 82, of Dillsboro passed away Monday, January 20, 2020 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. Dixie was born Thursday, February 4, 1937 in Illinois, the daughter of the late Donald and Evelyn (Ake) Kirkey. She married William “Bud” Schmaltz in 1958 and he survives. Dixie worked for the City of Dillsboro wastewater treatment department as a lab technician. She enjoyed painting, crafts, ceramics, loved her family, especially grandchildren, loved to read, gardening, and loved her dogs.
Dixie is survived by her husband William “Bud” Schmaltz of Dillsboro; sons: Donald “Dino” (Kim) Schmaltz of Dillsboro, William “Rick” (Carolyn) Schmaltz of Moores Hill and Charles Steven Craig of Texas; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
