(Plainfield, IN) – A familiar name who is now the superintendent of Plainfield Community Schools has warned that corporation’s students of disciplinary action if they participate in a walkout protest planned for tomorrow.
Superintendent Andy Allen – who is a former Principal at Batesville High School – said Plainfield students were instructed not to leave classrooms without permission and those who participate in the walkout will be marked “truant” and face potential suspension for insubordination.
The walkout, organized by advocacy group Hoosiers Rise, is part of a nationwide protest the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and federal immigration policy.
Social media posts and community accounts suggest strong feelings among student organizers, with some messages emphasizing support for undocumented classmates and expressing frustration with national policy decisions.
The school corporation says the intent of the district’s notice is not to silence students but to ensure that discussions around civic issues occur in a way that does not interrupt the learning environment.
They encouraged families to talk with students about appropriate ways to express their views and reminded that any absence during the walkout could count as unexcused unless otherwise authorized.
Allen is a 26-year education veteran, and served as BHS Principal from 2013 until taking over as Plainfield Schools Superintendent on January 1, 2026.
