Diana Lynn Schantz, age 71, of Batesville, Indiana, died Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at River Terrace Health Campus. Born July 26, 1948, in Batesville, she is the daughter of Carol (nee: Schone) and Roger Maple. At the age of 21, she married Anthony (Tony) Schantz at St. Louis Church on November 29, 1969. Diana worked for Dr. Steve Glaser for nearly 4 decades and was very devoted to her many patients. She was truly fond of seeing the hundreds of patients she cared for over the years. When seeing her beloved patients in public she would commonly express, “I put you on the scale when you were a baby!”. Di was a former member of the choir at St. Louis Church and served as President of the Franklin County Republican Woman’s Club. A personal hobby of Di’s was always being generous with her time and talent by sewing, cooking, and caring for others. Later in life, she and her husband Tony enjoyed traveling, collecting antiques, visiting many restaurants in the area, and creating fine wood furniture in Tony’s woodshop. A favorite vacation spot was Nashville, Tennessee where you might find Di at the Honkey Tonk Central enjoying a good dark beer and showing off one of her many patriotic hats or outfits.
Di was truly devoted to her grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as “Gakie”. Each one has many funny stories and great memories of her. They all still talk about how good her sea salt chocolate chip cookies were. She and Tony never missed a ballgame and traveled all over Indiana cheering on the Batesville Bulldogs and the Whiteland Warriors. When Di was in the stands, everyone knew who her grandchild was and how proud she was of them. However, she was a friend to all who needed one, cheering for all the players with a big smile on her face.
Di is survived by her husband Tony; son Tony and daughter-in-law Jene of Whiteland, Indiana; daughter Elizabeth and son-in-in-law Clay Kellerman of Oldenburg, Indiana; 5 grandchildren and sisters Becky and Roger Schutte, Morris, Indiana, Kathy, and Tim Pohlman, Batesville; brother Doug and Cindy Maple of Nashville, Tennessee as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, later in the summer, a funeral mass will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, Indiana followed by a celebration of life. Memorials can be made to the Margaret Mary Health Foundation.
