Diana F. Galyen, 78, Brookville

Diana F. Galyen, age 78, of Brookville, Indiana died Monday, November 20, 2023 at McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Ohio following a brief illness.

Born April 17, 1945 in Batesville, Indiana she was the daughter of the late Chester John & Mary Esther (Wolber) Bommer. On June 1, 1969 she was united in marriage to Ronald W. Galyen, and he survives.

Mrs. Galyen was retired, having taught school for over 35 years, with the last several years of her career teaching special needs pre school.

She was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Brookville, where she had served on Church Council, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the WELCA, and the church choir; she was a member of the Franklin County Extension Homemakers Club, the Brookville Womens Club, Hoosier Recreation Workshop, and was a Mini 4-H club leader.

In her leisure time she enjoyed her grandchildren, especially helping them with their 4-H projects; as well as attending Heritage Festivals with her husband Ron, where she demonstrated making rag rugs.

Besides Ron, her loving husband of over 54 years; survivors include two children, Matt (Kristina) Galyen and Marty (Laura) Galyen all of Brookville, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Ariel (Tanner) Smith, Kayla Galyen, Amber Galyen, Shaden Galyen, Chet Galyen, Branson Galyen, Steeley Galyen, foster grandson, Jamison Turnbloom; two great-grandchildren, Parker Smith & Teagan Smith; two brothers, Robert (Sandy) Bommer of Indianapolis, Indiana and Roger (Julie) Bommer of Brookville, Indiana; also her Swedish son, former exchange student, Beggi (Paulina) Helgason, and their children, David & Alicia of Sweden, as well as several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester & Mary Bommer, her in laws, Harold & Martha Galyen, as well as a grandson, Chance Galyen.

Family & friends may visit from 4 until 7:00 P.M. on Friday, November 24, 2023 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.

Rev. Dan Forehand & Rev. David Haarmeyer will officiate the Funeral service at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 823 Franklin Avenue, Brookville. Burial will follow in Springfield Cemetery in Bath, Indiana.
