Dexter Haney, 74, Batesville

 

Mr. Dexter Ray Haney, age 74, of Oldenburg, Indiana, formerly of Switzerland County, entered this life on August 24, 1950 in Ajax in Perry County, Kentucky. He was the loving son of the late Robert, Jr. and Jessie Mae Godsey Haney. He resided his early years in Cincinnati, Ohio and the family moved to a farm in Switzerland County in June of 1963. He attended school in Cincinnati and later in Switzerland County. Dexter was inducted into the United States Army on January 19, 1971 during the Vietnam era and served in the CO, 595th MP Company as a Specialist Four as a dog handler in the Sentry Service. He was honorably discharged on January 18, 1977 from the Reserves. He moved to Oldenburg in 1972 and began a career with Hillenbrand Industries at the Batesville Casket Company. He worked there for 52 years and finished up as a stainless steel finishing brush man. He was united in marriage in the fall of 1975 to Mary Elizabeth Laudick and this union was blessed with one son, Joshua Ray. He enjoyed playing the guitar and the keyboard. He had played in a band early in life. He loved to ride motorcycles and loved handling dogs. Dexter died on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 7:18 p.m. at the St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville, Indiana.

A LOVING FAMILY
Dexter will be missed by his son, Joshua Ray; his brothers, Leslie L. Haney of Latonia, Kentucky and James C. Haney and his wife, Brenda of Canaan, Indiana; his sisters, Glada M. Niesz and her husband, Erich of Cold Spring, Kentucky, Ninya L. Duebel of Highland Heights, Kentucky, and Teresa G. Smith of South Carolina; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Haney, Jr., died April 19, 2001 and his mother, Jessie Mae Godsey Haney, died October 7, 2017.

PRIVATE FAMILY FUNERAL CEREMONY

Private family services will be conducted Monday, November 18, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Entombment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 9306 North US 421 near Madison, Indiana.
PUBLIC VISITATION
Friends may visit Monday from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.

MILITARY HONORS
A final salute with military honors will be provided by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.
