Dennis Walterman, 78, Sunman

Dennis William Walterman, 78, of Sunman, passed away at home on Monday, April 11, 2022.

He was born in Batesville to Paul and Mary Louise (Robbins) Walterman on August 11, 1943.

Dennis proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He later went on to work as a pipe fitter for local 392 until he retired. While Dennis enjoyed being a veteran and was always known as a hard worker, it seems his favorite roles were the ones he took on at home as a dad and husband.

It was his roles as husband and father that took Dennis on infinite journeys. Many of these included days spent fishing until the fish stopped biting, picking blackberries, teaching his kids how to shoot guns and how to make his mom’s famous apple pie. He loved to mow his lawn almost as much as he loved John Deere. Taking his kids for rides on his side by side ATV he called “Scooter” was always something he looked forward to as well. While his daughters were growing up, he allowed them to pick out and rebuild their first cars and of course- they were Ford’s. These are just a few of the times that will always be remembered.

Dennis took a lot of pride in his family, but even more so when he became a grandfather. He cherished all of their memories from Ripley County 4H, B&G’s in Sunman, and everywhere in between.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Ruth (Myers) Walterman; children, Mike Walterman (Elizabeth), Greg Walterman, Nicole Cook, and Sheri Davis; grandchildren, Alyssa, Rylan, Carter, Cora, and one on the way; brother, Paul Walterman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his loyal golden retriever, Casey.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM with funeral services at 2:00 PM all at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Military honors by Southeast Indiana Honor Guard will follow immediately after.

Please feel free to leave a memory or a message of comfort for the family in the online guestbook at www.meyersfuneralhomes.com.
