Decatur County man arrested following St. Paul shooting

(St. Paul/Decatur County, IN) – A St. Paul man is facing charges in connection with an accidental shooting that landed a Shelbyville resident in the hospital.

Decatur County Dispatch received a call from Shelby County Dispatch shortly after 3 am Friday, July 21 about a gunshot wound victim being treated at Major Hospital in Shelbyville following a shooting at a home at 205 ½ East Washington Street in St. Paul.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office says the home’s resident, Damion Wayne Logsdon, was handling a firearm when it discharged, striking Chester William Smith of Shelbyville in the left shoulder.

The bullet then came to rest near Smith’s right shoulder.

He was later transferred to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Logsdon was charged with Criminal Recklessness (Level 6 felony) and Illegal Possession of Alcoholic Beverages/Consuming (Class C misdemeanor).

He was being held in the Decatur County Detention Center.

The Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit assisted in the investigation.
