(Dearborn County, IN) – Dearborn County Commissioners have issued a burn ban due to a lack of rainfall plus high temperatures and humidity.
The order is in place until further notice.
It was determined that vegetation is so dry around the county that it may easily combust and become a fire hazard.
Anyone who violates the burn ban is subject to fines ranging from $200 to $1,000 plus court costs.
Dearborn joins neighboring Franklin County in putting burn bans in place in recent days.
A burn ban is a restriction set by county officials that prohibits or limits open burning, campfires, or the use of fireworks.
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) says these measures help reduce the risk of wildfires and keep communities safe.
You can check your county’s burn ban status on the IDHS’s website: in.gov/dhs/burnban.
