Dearborn Co Hearts of Gold

Volunteerism in Dearborn County took center stage this week as three residents were honored for the time, energy and personal talents they devote to helping others.

The Dearborn Community Foundation has selected Stacy Halbig, Jude Schulte and Kenny Cotton as recipients of its 2025 Heart of Gold Award, which recognizes individuals whose volunteer service has made a meaningful impact across the community.

The three honorees represent different paths to service.

Halbig was recognized for her leadership with the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary, where she helps support law enforcement officers and their families through ongoing community efforts.

Schulte was honored for his involvement with multiple local organizations, including High Hope Café, where his volunteer work helps provide meals and support to those in need.

Cotton received recognition for using his skills as a woodworker to benefit others. His handcrafted projects have been donated to help individuals and organizations, turning a personal craft into a tool for service.

Foundation leaders say the Heart of Gold Award is intended to shine a light on volunteers whose contributions may not always be visible, but whose work strengthens the fabric of the community. By honoring recipients with different backgrounds and service roles, the foundation highlights the many ways residents give back throughout Dearborn County.

The 2025 awards celebrate service rooted in leadership, compassion and a willingness to use one’s time and talents for the benefit of others.
