Oldenburg, IN—State funding is making it possible for Indiana schools to improve their safety. State Sen Jean Leising says the deadline for the Secured School Safety Grant is quickly approaching, on August 2nd.
The money can be used for a variety of improvements, including hiring more school resource officers, threat assessments, and startup costs for active event warning systems to quickly alert first responders.
Applications are also open until August 15th for a new pilot mentorship program. State Rep. Ethan Manning says mentorship programs are a great way to get youth connected with the community.
Three schools will be chosen for the program and could be awarded up to 75-thousand-dollars.
