GREENSBURG, IN – July 29, 2025, Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) employees recently took a meaningful step toward prioritizing their own health during a series of free wellness screening events. Thanks to the combined efforts of DCMH’s HR team, Rewards & Recognition Committee, and the Hospital Foundation of Decatur County, 1,746 free screenings were provided to 291 employees across seven employee-only events held in July.
These screenings were about more than just results; they were about people. From nurses and environmental services staff to technicians, dietary teams, and administrative professionals, employees showed up for themselves and for one another. Every test administered represented not only preventive care, but also a clear message from leadership: You matter.
While DCMH regularly hosts free health events for the public, these employee-only screenings were designed with intention. By setting aside dedicated time and space for staff, the hospital ensures community events remain accessible for the broader community, while also giving DCMH team members the focused care and attention they deserve.
“Every person who works here gives so much of themselves,” said Billi Bruner, HR Director and Rewards & Recognition Committee lead. “Offering these screenings is just one way we show that we see them, and care about them just as much as they care about our patients.”
The success of these events was a true team effort, reflecting the same collaboration and care that define everyday life at DCMH.
“Our team actively promotes health and wellness in our community through free screening events. Providing free lab screenings to our employees reflects that same commitment to our team. When our staff is supported and cared for, they are better equipped to care for the community we serve,” said Rex McKinney, DCMH President and CEO.
These events were made possible by the generous support of DCMH and the Hospital Foundation of Decatur County, whose donors help bring initiatives like this to life.
“At the Hospital Foundation, we believe the well-being of our caregivers is just as important as the care they provide to others,” said Mandy Lohrum, Hospital Foundation of Decatur County Director. “Funding these screenings is a meaningful way we can give back to the people who show up every day with compassion and dedication. It’s our way of saying thank you, and making sure they feel as cared for as the patients they serve.”
