(Greensburg, IN) – Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) proudly hosted a free health screening event on April 30, 2025, dedicated to the first responders who serve and protect Decatur County.

The event was held during the regularly scheduled monthly first responders’ meeting and was open to all emergency personnel across the county—including full-time, part-time, and volunteer firefighters, sheriff’s deputies, city police officers, and dispatch responders from every township and town.

Attendees were offered a free A1c blood test to help assess their risk for diabetes, along with the opportunity to complete a health review designed to help determine whether additional preventive screenings—such as a colonoscopy, skin cancer screening, gynecology exam, mammogram, or PSA—may be recommended based on their individual health needs.

Thanks to generous donors and the Hospital Foundation of Decatur County, funds from the Community Impact Fund also made it possible for many attendees to schedule heart scan or lung scans at a reduced cost.

This initiative was designed not only to provide valuable health information but also to empower those on the front lines with the tools to take charge of their own wellness.

“Our first responders are always there when we need them—often putting their own health and well-being on the line for others,” said Kristol Hadler, Outpatient Services Director at DCMH. “This event is just one way we can give back by offering care, information, and support to those who give so much to our community.”

DCMH remains deeply committed to the health and wellness of the Decatur County community, and that includes ensuring the people who keep the community safe have access to the preventive care they deserve.
