D1P 17u Wins Bearcat Classic Silver Bracket Championship

(Hamilton, OH) – The D1P 17u traveled to the Spooky Nook Sport Champion Mill facility in Hamilton, Ohio this past weekend and won the 11th/12th Grade Silver Bracket Championship.

In the title game the squad shot an impressive 61% from the field, 72% in the second half and defeated the Cincinnati Titans 77-55.

Defense was key as well, holding the solid opponent to 43% shooting overall and outrebounding them 31-16.

The team was led in the championship game by the workhorse, Wyatt Adams with 18 points on 8-11 shooting for 73% and 10 rebounds.  Cayden Drake added 18 points as well on 9-14 shooting for 64% from the field.  Trenten Luers tallied 15 points.  Drew Volz had 10 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists.  Drake Scaggs had a great all-around game with 8 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists.  Karson Templeton had 8 points and 4 rebounds.

The squad reached their second championship contest in as many weeks by defeating the Cincinnati Icons in the semi-final 67-50.

Cayden Drake was solid in the contest finishing with 22 points on 8-10 shooting 80% and 13 rebounds.  Volz had 12 points and 4 assists.  Evan Lewis tallied 12 points with a perfect 5-5 from the field.  Adams had 7 points and 5 rebounds.  Templeton had 5 points and 6 rebounds.  Luers finished with 6 points and Scaggs rounded out the stat sheet 3 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

In Saturday’s pool play action in the 47 team field, the squad defeated a solid Midwest Flyers 77-72 in a highly competitive contest.

Keys to the victory were the team shooting 54% from the field and limiting the opponent to 44%.

Adams was fantastic around the basket with 18 points on 7-10 from the field for 70% and 12 rebounds.  Volz had 17 points and 8 assists.  Luers tallied 13 points.  Scaggs had 10 points and 5 assists.  Drake put up 9 points.  Lewis had 4 points and 4 boards.  Brayden Maple scored 4 points and Templeton recorded 2 points and 5 rebounds.

The team lost a hard fought contest to the Queen City Prophets 18u in the second game of pool play Saturday evening.  A rough second half offensively and defensively by the squad led to the 62-50 loss and send them to the silver bracket in the massive event.

Luers led the team in the losing effort with 13 points, Adams tallied 11, Maple had 6 and 3 assists, Drake 5 points and 4 rebounds, Lewis scored 4, Templeton 3 points, Scaggs posted 3 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists and Volz rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

The team moves to 6-2 overall on the spring season, with their two losses coming against 18u teams.  They will be in action next weekend in the Midwest Youth Tournaments Bring Your Game tournament at either Hauser High School or Triton Central High School.
