The D1P 17u team traveled to the Finch Creek Field House in Noblesville, IN over the weekend and lost a fantastic game in double overtime to EG10 18u 97-95 in the championship game.
The title game was a dandy, with the two heavyweights going blow for blow. D1P had a chance to win at the end of regulation and in the first overtime, but a clutch corner 3 from EG10 in regulation, a 35′ throw up at the buzzer forced the second overtime and a runner in the lane with 1.4 seconds left in the second OT were too much to overcome for the young squad to begin their spring tournament season.
Leading the way for D1P in the championship contest was Wyatt Adams with 22 points and 9 rebounds, Drew Volz with 17 points and 5 assists, Brayden Maple with 13 points, Drake Scaggs with 11 points and 6 assists, Karson Templeton 11 points, Evan Lewis 9 points and Cayden Drake with 4 points.
The squad earned the number one seed for bracket play on Sunday with two impressive wins on Saturday, defeating Indiana Basketball Club of Southwest Indiana 44-22 and Faith & Discipline 84-32.
Templeton led the way in game one vs IBC SWI with 11 points, Luers had 10, Volz 10, Adams had 6 rebounds and Scaggs 6 assists.
In the win vs Faith & Discipline, Drake and Luers tallied 16 points each, Volz 11 points and 8 assists, Scaggs 11 points and 7 rebounds, and Adams had 9 rebounds.
To get to the title game the squad defeated SP Elite, from Eastern Indiana, in the semi-final late Sunday morning 65-42. Scaggs led the way with 13 points and 5 rebounds, Drake had 10 points and 5 rebounds, Maple tallied 10 points while Lewis had 6 points and 6 rebounds.
The team (3-1) will be in action next Saturday evening and Sunday in the Bearcat Classic in Cincinnati, OH where it will continue their quest to play elite competition from around the midwest.
