UPDATED: Coroner called to ATV accident North of Holton

UPDATE –An ATV accident claimed the life of a Holton man early Tuesday afternoon.

According to Conservation Officers, Christopher M. Krause, 24, was operating an ATV on a muddy path in a field near the 400 block of North County Road 850 West in Holton around 2:00 PM.

Officers believe Krause swerved to avoid a mud puddle in the path and struck an old abandoned pickup truck, and was ejected from the ATV which rolled on top of him.

Krause was not wearing a helmet or any other protective gear at the time of the accident.

He was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Ripley County Coroners Office.

The accident is still under investigation, but it is believed that alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage riders to wear helmets and necessary safety equipment, as well as understand all laws while operating an Off-Road Vehicle both on and off the roadway.
