Congressman Pence decides not run for re-election

Sixth District Congressman Greg Pence (R-IN).

(Washington, D.C.) – Former Southeastern Indiana Congressman Greg Pence (R-Columbus) says he will not run for re-election after his current term expires at the end of 2024.

Pence has represented the 6th Congressional District for three terms.

He was Southeastern Indiana’s congressional representative until redistricting took effect at the start of last year.

The region is now represented by 9th District Congresswoman Erin Houchin (R-Salem).

Pence did not give a reason for his decision, but issued the following statement:

“In 2017, I ran for Congress because I was Ready to Serve Again. As a former Marine Officer, I approached the job with purpose. After three terms, I’ve made the decision to not file for reelection. For the remainder of my term this year, our team will continue to focus on delivering outstanding constituent services. To the voters in Indiana’s 6th District – it is a privilege and honor to represent you in our Nation’s capital,” Pence said.

He is the brother of former Vice President Mike Pence, who held the same seat for 12 years before successfully running for Indiana Governor.

The 6th District is comprised of Rush, Fayette, Union, Shelby, Hancock, Henry, Johnson,  and Wayne counties, and portions of Bartholomew, Marion and Randolph counties.
