Commissioners Consider Alcohol-Related Ordinance

(Greensburg, IN) – Decatur County Commissioners are considering an ordinance that could deliver a setback to the recently-established DORA.

Commissioners’ attorney Chad Smith this week presented to county leaders an ordinance he drafted that deals with the carrying and consumption of alcoholic beverages in county-managed parks.

It calls for prohibiting alcoholic beverages in parks and recreation areas controlled by county commissioners unless an exception is requested and granted.

This could keep booze from being consumed in Rebekah Park, which is included in the City of Greensburg’s DORA.

Mayor Joshua Marsh addressed the DORA at last month’s Decatur County Parks and Recreation Board, saying it was designed for events such as the Summer Concert Series, which has a beer garden and vendors are required to have a permit.

The second reading of the ordinance is expected at the Commissioners’ June 3 meeting.
