Clifford G Huneke, age 97

Osgood lost another familiar face, Clifford “Cliff” G. Huneke, age 97 passed away on Sunday November 7, 2021, at Manderley Health Care. Cliff was born on October 10, 1924, the son of the late Harry W. and Amanda M. (Graue) Huneke in Delaware Township.

Cliff grew up in the Napoleon community at was a Graduate of the Napoleon Class of 1943. Only weeks after graduating he was drafted into the United States Navy, and entered service is July of 43. He proudly served our country until 1946. His time in service involved time on a submarine involved in supporting the USS APOLLO.

He completed his service and enrolled in Purdue University graduating in 1950. In 1949 he would marry Mildred C. Bergman and they would spend the rest of their lives together until her passing in 2009. He entered the workforce at Holton Farm and Chemical working there until 1963. He tried his hand as a math teacher for 1 year before going into business on his own. In 1965 he became owner of H&W Chemco in Milan, in 1969 another branch in Napoleon was added. In 1973 he would purchase the Osgood Grain Company and own and operate it until 2019. At the age of 95 years old, he drove himself into work 7 days a week.

Cliff was a former Cub Scout and Boy Scout Master. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and St Peter’s Fink Church. He had also been a past member of the Lions Club.

He will be missed by daughters Louise (Joe) Morin and Carol (Tim) Wolff, son James (Donna) Huneke, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, brother-in-law Kenneth Bergman, sister in laws Phyllis Rhodes and Joan Hehe. He was preceded in death by wife Mildred, his parents, brothers Woodrow and Louis, and sister Wilma Wessel.

Visitation will be held on Friday November 12, 2021, from 9 am.- 12 pm. Funeral services will be held at 12 pm., with full military honors. All services will be held at St Peters Finks United Church of Christ. Memorials can be given to American Heart Association or Fink’s Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
