Children’s book offers basketball tips, tells story of ’54 state championship team

(Milan, IN) – The Milan ’54 Museum is out with its first children’s book.

Nice Guys Can Finish First: Life Lessons from the 1954 State Championship Basketball Team offers tips for youth basketball players and the history of the 1954 state championship team.

Each of the living members of the team participated in the project, which was sponsored by the Milan ’54 Hoosiers Museum Board of Directors.

The 36-page paperback for students in grades K-2 includes illustrations featuring the players and coaches, along with inspirational quotes and a glossary of basketball terms for beginning players.

“It was an honor, along with my teammates, to contribute to Nice Guys Can Finish First: Life Lessons from the 1954 Milan Indiana State Championship Team. One of our hopes is that our story will continue to inspire future generations of young basketball players and athletes from all endeavors.
