Charmaine R. Hauck (nee Zimmermann), age 92 of Enochsburg, Indiana passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025, at St. Andrew’s Health Campus in Batesville, Indiana. Born March 27, 1933, in Cincinnati, she is the daughter of Louis “Slick” and Eleanor (Wanstrath) Zimmermann. She married Robert Hauck on September 27, 1958, at St. Aloysuis Catholic Church in Cincinnati. Charmaine was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church – St. John Campus in Enochsburg.
Charmaine grew up in Cincinnati with her two brothers Leroy and John Zimmermann. Charmaine graduated from Mother of Mercy High School and graduated from Mount St. Joseph College with a degree in Sociology. Charmaine worked for a short time in social work.
Green Gables in Green Township was built in the early 1900’s by Charmaine’s parents, it was later owned by Charmaine and her brothers Leroy and John. Charmaine worked at the bar, hotel, and trailer court that were part of Green Gables. There are many funny stories that have been told about Green Gables through the years. Charmaine and her family made many lifelong friends at Green Gables.
Charmaine was a loving wife to her husband Bob. They met when Charmaine’s car “Bouncing Buella” broke down in the parking lot of Western Hills Plaza. Charmaine and Bob were married for over 65 years.
In 1969 Charmaine and Bob bought the Wanstrath family farm in Enochsburg. Charmaine enjoyed spending time with family and friends at “The Farm”. On many Sundays, family and a few lifelong friends came out to the farm to hang out and to help at “The Cheap Ass Hauck Farm”. The Sundays at the farm were often bustling with activity.
In 1986 Charmaine and Bob moved from Cincinnati to the farm in Enochsburg. Charmaine worked tirelessly in the summer on her flower gardens, she took great pride in her cannas flowers, many of the bulbs were from her father. Charmaine also enjoyed spending time mowing until just a few years ago. After moving to the farm, Charmaine and Bob went out to lunch almost every day. They enjoyed taking the long way home – “cruising”.
Charmaine and Bob enjoyed spending time with their granddaughters, Amanda and Jessica. They bought a golf cart for the farm – they enjoyed taking the girls for rides around the farm. In later years they enjoyed taking the great grandkids for golf cart rides. The great grandkids all called Charmaine and Bob – Grandma and Grandpa Farm.
After moving to the farm Charmaine worked for Jawacdah Farm for many years in the kitchen. Charmaine made many lifelong friends while working at “Camp”.
Charmaine is survived by daughters Darlene Hauck of Enochsburg, Dianne Hauck and Karen (Michael) Baker, all of Cincinnati; grandchildren Amanda and Jessica Baker of Cincinnati; great grandchildren Kaylee, Liam, Alaina, Olivia, and Caleb. Charmaine was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents, great granddaughter Kaylynn (Kaylee’s twin sister), and brothers Leroy and John Zimmermann.
Visitation is Friday, August 8th, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., at St. Catherine of Siena Church – St. John’s Campus in Enochsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon at the church , with Fr.
