Charles Edward Fisse, 90, of St Maurice, left his earthly life on Sunday, May 26, 2024. He was born on February 21, 1934, at home in rural Decatur County to Edward and Frances (Moorman) Fiase. He was a lifelong member of St Maurice (now St Catherine of Sienna) Catholic Church. Charles attended Clarksburg High School where he met the love of his life, Eileen (Berkemeier) Fisse.
Charles and Eileen were married on September 3, 1955, and she survives. Those 68 ½ years together were full of many adventures including raising six amazing children, farming, 30 plus years of square dancing, and traveling throughout the 48 contiguous states. Charlie, as he was known to many, farmed full-time on his family farm and later took over his father-in-law’s farm. He was well known for his 35 years of working for Batesville Blue Flame where he delivered propane down what seemed like about every road throughout southeastern Indiana to many loyal customers. After a short lived retirement from Blue Flame, he went to work at Walmart in Greensburg for 15 years where he assembled anything from bicycles to grills to displays; he also enjoyed helping customers and seeing old friends while he was there. He was also known for his remarkable woodworking skill, creating everything from handcrafted Christmas ornaments to large wooden baskets of which many people were blessed to be recipients of over the years; he passed down this love of working with wood to his children and grandchildren who work to be the skilled craftsman he was. His faithfulness to his church involved taking care of the parish hall for thirty years, serving on the board for the church cemetery, mowing the church cemetery, being one of the first lay CCD/religion class teachers, singing in the choir, and being both a eucharistic minister & lector. Charlie enjoyed joking around which almost always earned him an eye roll from Eileen.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children; Doug (Peggy) Fisse of Greensburg, Cindy Stevens (Randy Schoettmer) of Greensburg, Pam (Mark) Thackery of Greensburg, Jenny (Bill) Feebeck of Knightstown, Jill (Chris) Bruce of Indianapolis, and Phil Fisse of Greensburg. Also left to cherish memories and stories of him are ten grandchildren: Charlie Stevens of Greensburg, Katy (John) Hubbard of Defiance OH, Samantha (Mark) Baldwin of St Paul, John (Amethyst) Thackery of Greensburg, Erica (Addison) Evans of Indianapolis, PJ Fisse of Greensburg, Will Feebeck of Knightstown, Ella Bruce of Indianapolis, Meri Bruce of Indianapolis, and Lizzie Fisse of Greensburg along with seven great grandchildren: Elliott, Emily, Karaline, Adaline, Ridley, Leo, and Jett. He is also survived by two sisters, Judy Muckerheide of Greensburg and Ellen Wallace of Collinsville IL and two nieces. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Ann Fisse, and a sister, Marie (Fisse) Martin.
