Charles (Charlie) Eugene (Gene) Emsweller, 92, of Clarksburg, passed away on July 25, 2025.
Charlie, or Gene, depending on who was calling for him, was born in Franklin County, IN, on April 11, 1933, to Jesse “Doc” Emsweller and Onalee (Garrison) Humphrey. He married Wanda Hatton on August 19, 1954. They created an expansive family with generations of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren descending on their home every week for Sunday dinner. No matter who showed up, there was always plenty to go around.
Charlie was a farmer and worked for Delta Faucet for more than 38 years. For many years, he was in charge of putting the Christmas lights on Delta’s building faucet and delighted in taking his grandchildren to see his efforts. He was also a Clarksburg volunteer firefighter who was honored for more than 50 years of service. He was known for his robust garden, as well as his collections of old, greasy oilfield engines and antique Fords. He was also a medaled veteran of the Korean War and long-time member of Clarksburg Christian Church
Charlie is survived by one sister; Florence Routson, two sons; Rick (Connie) Emsweller of Greensburg and Scott (Tina) Emsweller of Fairland, two daughters; Nancy (Jim) Fletcher and Becky (Greg) Gault both of Greensburg, grandchildren; Charles ‘Chad’ (Jennifer) Emsweller, Ashley (Adam) Hungate, Megan (Ben) Clouse, Desiree (Richie) Shaw, Zachary Gault, Travis Gault, Duncan Emsweller, Ethan Emsweller, Andrea (Brian) Frazee, Dylan (Tiffany) Emsweller, David (Taunya) Milligan and Johnathan (Jennifer) Milligan, and 20 great-grandchildren; He was preceded in death by his father, mother, wife, brother Stanley “Dutch” Griffin, sister Alice Silvers, two sons; Chuck (Brenda) Emsweller of Clarksburg and David (Susan) Emsweller of Avon, one granddaughter; Brittany Emsweller and one great grandson; Gibson Clouse.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral at 1:00 pm. Rev. Jerran Jackson will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Clarksburg Christian Church or to the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department.
