Burress Resigns from Central Office Post

(St. Leon, IN) – Dusty Burress has stepped down as Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools Director of Support Services.

Burress, who served in that role for a number of years, is being replaced on an interim basis by the school corporation’s current Transportation Director Jamie Shartzer to finish out the school year.

“I’m considering different proposals to move forward for next school year and looking at potentially reorganizing the central office,” said Superintendent Andrew Jackson on WRBI’s The Daily Pod. “Even possibly absorbing that position if we need to due to some budget cuts that we’re experiencing with Senate Enrolled Act 1 and some of the property tax reform that came through last year.”

Dr. Jackson says Sunman-Dearborn expects to lose $1.1 million in property tax revenue this calendar year as a result of SEA 1.

Shartzer, in her interim role as Support Services Director, will take care of several essential items that need to be handled between now and the end of the school year, along with her duties as Transportation Director.

Dr. Jackson says he will oversee the day-to-day operations of the ongoing building project as a result of Burress’ departure.
