The Bulldog Middle School wrestling squad started off their final week of the season with a bang. Hosting the Shelbyville Bears the Bulldogs put up a solid battle the entire night to walk away with a 58-57 win, taking them to 2-10 on the season in dual meet action.
The evening started out with the bears giving up five weight classes and Batesville jumped out to an early 36-0 lead. Receiving forfeits for the Bulldogs included; Joey Gutzwiller, Caleb Bischoff- Niece, JT Linkel, Andy Gutzwiller, and Henry Lipinski. 95 pounder, Isaiah Riffle continued the trend as he pinned his opponent in 1:12 in the first period. Dallas Lamping walked away from a hard fought match with a 9-1 major decision over his 105 bout. Jackson Wooldridge, Kevin Crowell, and Hunter Hon put together a trio of pins that increased the Bulldog lead to 58-30. With the host team giving up six weight classes toward the upper weights, it lead to a nail biting end where the Bulldogs came out on top.
Other wrestlers seeing varsity matches included, Noah Hewitt, Cole Streuwing, Ethan Gibbs, and Mitchell Thomas. A great evening of effort and improvement came through for the Batesville grapplers.
The Bulldogs will be back in action this Thursday as they host visiting Greensburg at Batesville Middle School starting at 5:30pm.
