Bulldogs And Pirates Participate At EC Indoor Meet

The 2019 track season is here opening up with an indoor meet at East Central on Saturday.  The Batesville Bulldogs spent from 8:30-4pm competing against teams in our conference and local area.  This was not a team scored meet, but an opportunity for athletes and relays to get marks and times for a chance to qualify for the indoor state track meet March 23rd at Indiana University.  Qualifying depends on the placement of each individual and relay of the rest of the state.  There are many qualifying meets throughout the state from this past weekend and there will be more in the next two weeks.  Batesville will be traveling to the University of Indianapolis March 16th for another qualifying opportunity.  The weekend of the 16th is the last chance to qualify.  Once all the times and distances are reported, then the top 24 of each event will be ask to compete in the state meet.

The Girls Team earned indoor personal records, put their names in the Pirate Indoor history books, and captured two individual Championships. The 2019 East Central Indoor Invite Shot Put Champion Lily Grimes defended her title in shot put. She has won this event the past 4 years. Her toss of 38’10.5″ ranks her second out of all the female throwers from Indiana’s small schools. Teammate Emily Mangels placed 2nd in 2:43.54 and earned a spot as the 3rd fastest Lady Pirate Indoor 800 runner in the history books.
