New Castle, In. — Recently, Governor Eric Holcomb helped fulfill a bucket list request for Navy veteran and former mayor of New Castle Jim Small.
Jim, who has cancer, wanted to visit the 122nd Fighter Wing, a unit of the Indiana Air National Guard in Fort Wayne, and sit in the pilot seat of an A-10 Thunderbolt II.
As seen in the photo above, Jim’s request was granted. Last week, he, along with his wife, Jacky, was invited to the unit, where he took a tour, met enlisted and senior officers and sat in the pilot seat of the plane.
Jim had the following to say about his visit.
“I really felt like a VIP with all the senior officers and enlisted (officers) who turned out to welcome me and my wife, Jacky,” Jim said. “My joy was indescribable.”
