(Batesville, IN) – Doug Browne is retiring as the City of Batesville’s Comptroller, effective March 6.
Browne marked his 30th anniversary with the City in August, and was originally selected for the Comptroller position by the Water and Gas Board.
He grew up in Columbus, and was a Certified Public Accountant before moving from Bartholomew County to Batesville.
Browne was a teacher for one year prior to embarking on his CPA career.
Outside of his job with the city, Browne served as a leader with the Boys Scouts of America for many years, and currently serves with Batesville Kiwanis. Browne says he’s looking forward to volunteering more after he retires.
“For 30 years, Doug has been the definition of dependable. His work ethic never wavered, his commitment never faded, and his impact won’t be forgotten,” said Mayor John Irrgang. “We thank him for being the kind of employee every organization hopes for. Congratulations on your retirement!”
The Comptroller job title is also departing.
Rick Burcham has been hired to succeed Browne.
However, Burcham’s job title will instead be Deputy Clerk-Treasurer/Water and Gas.
