(Batesville, IN) – Batesville Police Corporal Ryan Metcalf has been presented the Lifesaving Award for his actions related to a downtown house fire in September.
Metcalf arrived at the home on September 17 and saw the entire back of the house was engulfed in flames.
He ran to the house and saw a woman standing outside who was screaming to another person believed to be still inside.
At the same time, explosions were going off in the back of the residence.
The Batesville Police Department says, without hesitation, Cpl. Metcalf kicked in the front door, and once he was able to see inside the house, he found the person standing in the back of a room.
Metcalf yelled at the person to get out of the residence, which they did.
In a statement, BPD says,” Without the quick actions of Cpl. Metcalf, it is most certain that a life would have been lost.”
