Bonnie Franklin


Bonita M. “Bonnie” Franklin, 73, of Versailles passed away at 1:30pm, Saturday, August 26, 2017 at her home. She was born at St. Paul, Indiana on August 24, 1944 the daughter of Glenn and Anna Marie Hartman Townsend. She was married to Charles Franklin on October 26, 1974 and he survives. Other survivors include two sons Mark (Carla) Franklin of Holton and Geoff (Sarah) Franklin of Osgood; four grandchildren Ethan, Kendra, Nicholas, and Madeline Franklin; one brother Jerry Townsend of North Vernon; two sisters Sara Harding and Linda Collier both of Shelbyville. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Franklin was a 1962 graduate of St. Paul High School. From 1964 to 1966 Bonnie served as a medic with the US Navy at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. In civilian life she worked as a Postmaster relief person for post offices in Holton, Osgood, Versailles, Friendship, Pierceville, and Osgood, retiring in 2005. She was a former 4-H leader for the Hopewell Clover Bees and also sold ads for 4-H for nine years. Bonnie was a member of the Dabney Baptist Church and one of her greatest thrills was working with the Good News Club at South Ripley for the past nine years. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 30th at 10:30am at the Dabney Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Bell and Rev. Mike Cantrell officiating. Burial will be in the Dabney Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of South Central Indiana or CEF (Good News Club) in care of the funeral home.
