(Greensburg, IN) – North Decatur Varsity Chargers could not keep up with Batesville 9-4 on Tuesday at North Decatur High School.
Batesville jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Carson Meyer doubled, scoring two runs, Alex Krekeler grounded out, scoring one run, and Joshua Borgman singled, scoring one run.
A double by Will Jaisle, an error, and a passed ball helped Batesville extend their early lead in the second.
A triple by Dane Dudley extended the Batesville lead to 9-1 in the top of the third inning.
Jaisle earned the win for Batesville. The pitcher gave up one hit and one run over three innings, striking out eight and walking four.
Eli Trenkamp pitched three innings in relief for North Decatur Varsity Chargers. The pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs while, striking out none and walking none. Kamdenn McKinney took the loss for North Decatur Varsity Chargers. The pitcher went one and one-third innings, surrendering eight runs (six earned) on five hits, striking out one and walking five.
North Decatur Varsity Chargers’s Henry Kinker, the number nine hitter, led them with two hits in four at bats. Xander Jones, Kinker, and Grayson Downey each drove in one run for North Decatur Varsity Chargers. Downey led North Decatur Varsity Chargers with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game.
Dudley and Carson Schneider were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Batesville. Borgman and Meyer each drove in two runs for Batesville. Batesville had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Krekeler and Brayden Maple led the team with two walks each. Maple and Jaisle each stole multiple bases for Batesville. Batesville stole six bases in the game.
North Decatur Varsity Chargers will travel to Morristown for their next game on Thursday.
