Batesville wins freshman EIAC volleyball tournament

The EIAC freshman volleyball tournament was held Saturday at Franklin County.  Batesville beat the host Wildcats in the final match to earn the title.

“The BHS freshman team had a very productive weekend,” said Batesville assistant coach Vickie Heil. ” They competed against East Central winning 25-12, 25-8. Then they played Franklin County and won 25-20, 18-25, and 15-8.

Annie Negovetich led Batesville in serving going 34 for 34 with 8 aces.  She also had 8 assists. Sarah Bedel had 7 kills and Molly Meer had 4 kills.

Franklin County assistant coach Megan Boone said, “Franklin County’s freshmen played hard and brought home one win and one loss to place second. The girls started with East Central and won 25-15, 25-19. They played so well together. It was great to see them all come together and have a good time while bringing home the W!”

Franklin County reported stats vs. East Central: Cydney Morehead had 2 aces, 2 kills, 2 digs, and 4 assists; Bailey Kaiser had 3 aces, 2 kills, and 2 solo blocks; Annie Hoff had 5 aces, 3 digs, 1 solo block, and 1 assist; Tiffany Billman had 4 kills, 1 solo block, and 1 assist; Olivia Rosemeyer had 3 aces and 3 digs; Claire Reister had 1 kill, 1 solo block, and 1 assist; Brooke Stang had 1 kill, 1 dig, and 1 assist; and Marisa Marshall had 1 dig and 1 assist.

“After defeating EC, the girls played Batesville,” stated Boone.  “The Wildcats fell to the Bulldogs in the first game 20-25 but won the second game 25-18 taking them into a third set. The girls played their hearts out but fell to the Bulldogs in the third set 8-15.”

“Although they didn’t bring home the win, our girls played hard and an exciting game,” added Boone.  “They were digging and blocking machines!  Unfortunately, the girls were getting tired and their serving suffered.  Had they consistently kept their serves in, I really think they would have brought home the trophy.  Their stats were spread out all around. They were talking and helping each other out. We had six girls with assists. That is incredible!  They should be so proud of the way they played and so proud of the team they are becoming.”

Franklin County reported stats vs. Batesville: Brooke Stang had 10 digs, 3 assisted blocks, 3 assists, 1 ace, and 1 kill; Annie Hoff had 3 kills, 4 digs, 2 solo blocks, and 1 assist; Tiffany Billman had 5 kills, 1 solo block, and 3 assisted blocks; Cydney Morehead had 2 kills, 1 dig, and 3 assists; Kilie Brackenridge had 5 digs and 1 ace; Olivia Rosemeyer had 5 digs; Claire Reister had 3 kills and 1 ace; Marisa Marshall had 1 solo block and 2 assists; Bailey Kaiser had 2 aces and 1 assist; and Hannah Davis had 1 assist and 1 dig.
