Batesville wins East Central Boys Track and Field Sectional

The East Central Boys Track and Field Sectional resumed last night (Friday) after being suspended Thursday because of rain.  At the end of the night, Batesville took the team championship, outscoring second place Lawrenceburg 120.5-91.  East Central, Franklin County and Greensburg rounded out the top five.

Individual event champions from coverage schools included:

  • Batesville- Benjamin Moster (2) and Jake Chapman.
  • Milan- Benjamin Riehle and Mason Green.
  • Greensburg- Matthew Stewart.
  • Franklin County- Jacob Schatzle and Chad Cox.
  • East Central- Leo Maxwell (2) and Riley Smith. Maxwell broke his own sectional and school records throwing 179’8” in the discus and 61’1.75” in the shot.

The top three finishers in each sectional event automatically qualify for the Thursday, May 26 Greenfield-Central Regional.  It is also possible for athletes outside of the top three to qualify if they are among the best of the rest to fill out the 16 available spots in a particular event.

Batesville’s Lisa Gausman- This year’s Boys Track and Field 13 team Sectional was a rare two day event after the first night had to get postponed because of the weather. But, the Batesville Bulldogs did not let that keep them from defending their Sectionals title and advancing 9 events on to the Regional competition next Thursday.
Batesville won by 29.5 points ahead of Lawrenceburg 120.5-91. Lawrenceburg just snuck by East Central by two points as the Trojans scored 89. Fourth through sixth place was also a tight race with Franklin County in 4th at 66 points. Greensburg just out scored South Dearborn by 1.5 points, 61.5-60. (Full results can be found on IHSAA.org.) Congratulations Bulldogs!

Batesville also won 4 events, the 4 x 800m relay, 800m run, 1600m run and 3200m run.
The following boys were Sectional Champions:

North Decatur’s Andrew Hocker-

Ellis Loehmer placed third and qualified for regionals in high jump with a height of 6-00 cleared. He also placed 8th in the 110m hurdles.

Also in high jump, Mason Morris placed 5th with a height of 5-08.

The 4x100m relay team placed 7th with a time of 47.94. That team consisted of Conner Linkmeyer, Kaleb Phelps, Mason Morris, and Marshal Snell.

PR’s from the meet who did not place:

  • In shot put, Caiden Gahimer got a PR of 40-11.
  • In the 400m dash, Owen Geis got a PR time of 56.24.
  • In the 110m hurdles, Mason Dimett got a PR time of 21.70.
  • In the 800m run, Noah Weisenbach got a PR time fo 2:29.
  • In the mile, both of our runners got a PR. Ryan Hancock got a time of 5:38 and Brayden Smith got a time of 5:54.
