Franklin County got on the board in the third inning after Gavin Trammell was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.
Rylan Yeager singled to left field, which helped Batesville tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth.
A double by Carson Meyer gave Batesville the lead, 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth.
Cayden Drake earned the win for the Bulldogs. The hurler gave up three hits and one run (zero earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking none. Jaisle opened the game for Batesville. The righty surrendered one hit and one run over four innings, striking out nine and walking three. Tyler Weaver stepped on the hill first for Franklin County. The starting pitcher allowed eight hits and three runs over five innings, striking out one and walking one. Josh Borgman pitched one inning of shutout ball for Batesville. The pitcher came in with bases loaded in the top of the seventh in a one-run ballgame with no outs. Borgman was able to field a bunt and throw it home for the force out for out one. Then got the ground ball double play to Ronan Post to end the game.
Batesville piled up nine hits in the game. Meyer and Ronan Post each collected two hits for the Bulldogs. Yeager, Meyer, and Post each drove in one run for Batesville.
Blake Stephenson and Trammell were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup as each drove in one run for Franklin County. Garrett Kuntz went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Wildcats in hits. Franklin County was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Stephenson had the most chances in the field with five.
Varsity moves to 7-1 on the season and 5-0 in the EIAC as they head to Franklin County to play again on Thursday.
