The Batesville girls golf team qualified for the state finals, a first in program history, by placing third at the Lapel Regional Saturday. The Bulldogs, coached by Tom Meyer, shot 331 on the Edgewood Golf Club course near Anderson. Batesville trailed only champion Noblesville with 313 and runner up Hamilton Southeastern with 315.
BHS was seventh last year at the regional, although Emma Weiler had qualified individually for state a second straight year. This year, Weiler will get to share a state finals experience with the entire team.
Emma Weiler led the Bulldogs with a fourth place overall finish shooting 75. Hamilton Southeastern’s Yanah Rolston was the regional champion scoring a 69. The other three Bulldogs who accounted for the state-worthy effort was Josie Meyer with 80 (including an eagle in the 18th hole), Addyson Weiler 81 and Tori Harpring 95. Madelyn Pohlman posted a non-scoring 111 but will be joining her teammates at the big dance as well.
The state finals will be held Friday, October 1 and Saturday, October 2 at Praire View Golf Club in Carmel.
Other local team results at Lapel saw Greensburg place 15th with 416, Franklin County was 16th at 421 and Rushville finished 18th with 445.
Top scores from other local teams represented at Lapel include: Franklin County’s Nicole Mears 91, Greensburg’s Sarah Stapp 93, Rushville’s Isabelle Wilson 100, Oldenburg’s Emerald Simmonds 103, Jac-Cen-Del’s Tracy McKittrick 107 and Milan’s Kayla Walke 114.

At the Roncalli Regional played at Smock Golf Club, Lawrenceburg placed 16th with a 416. The Tigers were led by Ella Shelton who shot 94.
Individually, Switzerland County’s Hailey Hines posted 93.
Carmel won the team title with 301. Westfield’s Samantha Brown defeated Carmel’s Ava Hedrick to capture the individual championship. Both players shot 72 after 18 holes.
