Batesville leaders unanimously approve tax abatement

Batesville, In. — The Batesville common council has unanimously approved a 10-year, 30 percent real property tax abatement for recently announced expansion plans at Hill-Rom.

The abatement includes upgrades and renovations to the Innovation Center on State Road 46 and The Ritter Plant on Pearl Street.

An expansion of the safe patient handling product line will lead Hill-Rom to make an additional investment in Batesville. Plans include adding up to 35 software, mechanical, design, electrical, systems and test engineers.

Hill-Rom recently purchased Skaneateles Falls, New York-based Welch Allyn. In 2015 Hill-Rom cut 80 positions at Welch Allyn, 50 at the New York facility. Company officials now see this move as an opportunity to upgrade their research and development workforce. Some relocation opportunities will be offered.
