One of the first pleasant mornings for a 5K race all season so far and many athletes took advantage of it as the Batesville Bulldogs hosted the conference meet. I don’t know how many personal bests were run from the other schools (I heard of a lot) but Batesville had 13 overall personal bests and 5 season bests recorded this morning. Batesville also had 10 runners named to the All-Conference team. Despite these efforts, the girls were runner up for the Bulldogs and the boys took 3rd place in their race. The East Central girls were named the conference champions for 2022 this year, scoring an impressive 21 points to the Bulldogs 34 points. Greensburg was 3rd (89), Rushville 4th (108) and South Dearborn 5th (146). Freshman Callie Bentley from East Central was the MVP of the meet, crossing the finish line first at 19:01.6. For Batesville , all 7 varsity girls made the All-Conference Team. It was senior Ava Hanson to lead her team coming in 3rd with a season PR of 19:39. Lexiynne Harris was 5th running a personal best of 19:54. Sophie Myers was the 3rd Bulldogs to cross the line in 7th with a season PR of 20:13. The Bulldogs then took 9th, 10th and 11th places with Kaylynn Bedel (20:22-season PR), Charlotte Trossman (20:38-PR), and Megan Allgeier (20:46-season PR). Finishing out the top 7 and snagging one of the last spots to be named to the All-Conference team in 14th place was Kaylie Raver (21:28).
On the boys side, Greenburg was the Conference Champions with a score of 38 points. East Central was 2nd with 58 points, Batesville 3rd at 68 points, just outscoring Rushinville with 70 points. Connersville took 5th with 124 points. East Central’s Bradyn Hatton was named the MVP of the boys race, crossing the finish line first in a time of 16:53. The Bulldogs had 3 individuals in the top 15 and named All-Conference. They were: Jake Chapman came in 3rd (17:03-PR), Isaac Trossman was 11th (17:49-PR) and Cannon Clark was 14th (18:01-PR). Just missing out on the top 15 was Eli Loichinger in the 19th spot (18:18-season PR). Next for the Dogs was Paxton Harris in 23rd (18:42-PR) with Deev Ranka close behind in 28th (18:55-PR). Finishing out the top 7 for the boys was Cash Myers, placing 34th (19:43).
Although there weren’t team points or awards for the JV, the girls had 6 in the race and the boys had 2. Six of those 8 ran a personal best. Leading the way for the girls was freshman Bayleigh Demaree placing 5th, followed by Sam Adams in 7th and Isabel Raab right behind her in 8th. Next was Madison Rahschulte, 10th, Ella Moster 11th and Shanna Smith in 15th. Bayleigh, Sam, Isabel and Ella all ran a personal best. For the boys it was Benjamin Adams leading the way placing 3rd and Ethan Rahschulte was 9th, both running personal bests.
Batesville has a busy week next week as they will host another meet on Tuesday, their Batesville Invitational. This will also be senior night for the 4 of the Dogs. We will be honoring Ava Hanson, Sophie Myers, Madison Rahschulte and Hope Kroen. Come out and cheer on your Bulldogs. Action will begin at 5:30. They will also travel to Greensburg on Thursday for the Greensburg Invitational. This will also be their last meet of the regular season.
