BATESVILLE, IN — Batesville City Council on Monday night approved a $10,000 Belterra Funds request from the Southeastern Indiana YMCA for its Community Sports Complex.

The complex is now under construction and – once completed — will include four Pickle Ball courts, two half-court basketball courts, a shelter area, and a link with the city trail extension from Liberty Park.

“The space will be free for all to use,” said Y CEO Angie Harmeyer. “We look to have acoustic music and special events out there, as well. So we encourage the community to come out and visit the space once construction is finished.”

Harmeyer says the project is being done with residential neighbors’ peace and quiet in mind.

“We have lighting around the courts but we have timers that will be on the lights, so we want to be good neighbors with Hillendale Commons so the lights are not going to be on all the time,” Harmeyer added.

She is pleased the Y’s funding request was approved by City Council.

“The city has been good stewards for the Y and the community and we hope to return that favor through our sports complex,” Harmeyer said.

Some of the goals set forth for the complex include improving individual and community wellness, enhancing healthy habits, and attracting visitors to Batesville.
