Batesville Boys Tennis faces tough opponents at Columbus North

Batesville finished in third of three teams at the Columbus North Boys Tennis Invitational.

The Bulldogs faced Providence in their first round matchup and lost 4-1. The #2 doubles team of Alec Bunselmeier and Sam Johnson picked up the lone point for the Bulldogs.  Jaden Smith suffered his first loss of the season. Cael Rahe at 1 singles and the 1 doubles team of Cole Pride and Jackson Tracy all won their first set but ultimately lost in three sets.

“It was a hard fought match at every position,” said Batesville coach Mitchell Taylor.

  • 1 singles- Rahe lost 6-4, 3-6, 4-6
  • 2 singles- Smith lost 1-6, 1-6
  • 3 singles- Oesterling lost 2-6, 3-6
  • 1 doubles- Pride/Tracy lost 7-5, 3-6, 4-6
  • 2 doubles- Bunselmeier/Johnson won 6-4, 4-6, 6-4

In Batesville’s round two matchup, the Dogs battled against some stiff competition in No. 2 ranked Columbus North.  Bunselmeier and Johnson lost their first doubles match of the season as BHS fell in all five matches.

“We lost 5-0 but the boys fought hard, played with a lot of pace, and a lot more loosely than normal,” stated Taylor.
