Baseball sectional recaps Wednesday through Friday

While most local baseball teams have been waiting to play their first sectional game, East Central’s seniors and their teammates played their final two of the year in Bloomington. East Central Baseball photo via Twitter @EC_TrojansBSBL.

The following are high school baseball sectional recaps from Wednesday, May 25 through Friday, May 27.   Most games during this period were postponed.  There may by updates, so please check back.

In a round one 4A-14 game at Bloomington South, East Central upset No. 5 Columbus North 5-4.

The Trojans only had three hits.  Two cleared the fence as Sam Bond and Luke Vogelgesang both homered. Starting pitcher Sam Huston got the win going 5-2/3 and kept a good Bull Dog team in check.  Daniel Brayton earned the save over 1-1/3 innings.

East Central then fell to host Bloomington South 12-2 in the semifinals.

The Trojans were held to three hits by Luke Moorman, Josh Ringer and Vogelgesang.  Moorman doubled and had an RBI.

At 1A-60 hosted by Jac-Cen-Del, Rising Sun beat Oldenburg 9-2 in an opening round contest.

Ashton McCarty had four hits, a sacrifice fly and three RBI to lead the Shiners.  Peyton Merica pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts against one walk and five hits.
