Aurora, In. — An Aurora man is in custody after a five hour standoff, with shots fired Friday evening.
A report from the Indiana State Police says officers determined Michael A. Smith, 32, was wanted for an outstanding warrant while conducting a welfare check at a home in the 5700 block of Dutch Hollow Road at 7 p.m.
When police attempted to make contact with Smith he fired a shot in their direction from inside the residence. The officers moved to a safe position and called for SWAT assistance.
After five hours, officers entered the residence and removed Smith without further incident. Smith was transported to University of Cincinnati Hospital for treatment.
Smith was arrested for the outstanding warrant and could face additional charges following this investigation.
